mushrooms growing up through my veggies

El Reno, OK

Hello again, very new to this forum and strawbale gardening. I have black powering mushrooms growing up through my veggies leaving a black powder. Has anyone else had this happen before? I just pick them out and the black powder remains on the plant. Besides that i have 20 bales and they are doing great. Most plants have doubled in size. I have yellow blooms on my early girls and Arkansas Travlers plants. Needing alittle advise down here in Oklahoma were the winds never stop blowing. Please someone else take some of this wind. Thanks Bill

Hi Bill, went out this morning and to see something disgusting on one of my bales. I thought our feral kitty threw something up but thank goodness it was only some mushrooms. We find mushrooms sprouting up everywhere and they don't seem to do any harm so I am not worried about these, as of yet. I think the warm bales and lots of moisture makes the perfect environment for them. Wouldn't it be great if they are eatable?

We have had a lot serious wind here this year so I placed my bales where I can tie the tomatoes to the deck railing. I lost some cucumber and melon seedlings because the wind just beat them to death.

Good luck,
Helen

Bill: yep, mushrooms are a good sign all is well with your bales.

Great thanks for replys. I am having fun. The girls were out pulling straw grass today. Alot of grass growing here, but much easier than weeding my traditional garden. keep on bailing....
