Just wondering if anyone has ever been to Raintree Nursery? I just got their clearance newsletter and was thinking of making a road trip down there to buy some stuff. I am hoping it will be a huge place that is worth making the drive but I am not sure...
Also, any other good places along the way?
Anyone ever been to Raintree?
I have, but it's been ten years or so. All I remember is that the section I was wandering around in was on a slope and almost terraced. I think I must've wanted to take a road trip somewhere, I have no idea why I went up there back then.
Seems like there are some nurseries in Cinebar-saw some signs from there last week at the garden show, but nowhere that I can remember for sure.
I was there last year. It's really out of the way and it isn't that big a place. I felt like I would do better just ordering from the catalog. I did not think they had very much inventory from the looks of it. I saw another large nursery on the side of the road on the way out there but I didn't stop. It looked like a regular nursery that sells lots of fuchsias, marigolds, etc. We were dropping my son off in Randall for a weekend event. I was really looking forward to seeing Raintree and ended up spending all of 30 minutes there.
I was there about 7 years ago and took a pruning class and espalier class. The people are very nice and I got some trees. They have lots of fruit trees and bushes. The weekends usually has several classes. Check the magazine.
Hrm. I was thinking of going today since I wanted to order a "Rubel" but I can't get anyone on the phone to confirm stock on a particular item I want. I have tried to call them in the past as well but the phone just rings and then clicks over to nothing. Anyone else have this issue?
They were kind of small when I was there. So maybe they are having burn out and went off for a day off. Getting ready for the season can be a little tough and maybe a financial burden was caused by the unseasonable weather. I always like to speculate on senarios. LOL
I purchased most of my fruit trees, cane & bush fruits from Raintree about 8-9 years ago,
& am very pleased with the quality of the stock I received.
I have never been on-site, though.
Whoever was doing their grafting did a fabulous job - no complaints here.
I bought several fruit trees (bare root) and strawberries from them last year. Very good prices. Very helpful. I guess you have to weigh the cost of gas vs your savings. There is no display garden, but they do have tons of inventory. I was able to call them..... I know they have different hours in the off season.....
After trying numerous times I was able to get a hold of them! Perhaps they are just busy. Anyhow I decided to wait until I am going up that way in a month or so instead of making the drive. There are so many plant sales next weekend that I really want to stay around town and hit them.
I will just order what I want and hope for the best :)
You will get good plants from them. They need a reputation to stay in business. It is in a beautiful area and you would enjoy the trip from Vancouver. I drove from Montana and had fun.
I am so sorry - I had Raintree confused with One Green World. I've never been to Raintree, although I've heard it is wonderful.
According to their catalogue, this time of year, they are only open Weds thru Sunday. I would love to go because it looks like their inventory is amazing.
Again, I am so sorry for my brain fog.

I have always had great luck with the plants I have gotten from Raintree Nursery. I have a wonderful grape "Venus" and one of the best purchases I have made was their "Beauty" Japanese plum. I did visit the nursery years ago and sounds like it is still rather small. Most of their stock is bare root and kept in cold storage, so there is not a lot to see.
