We just got seven hens last night, I was expecting three or four, but someone wanted out of the hobby their kids had started in 4-H. We got eggs today! I'd like to feed them organically, but I don't know where to start looking for feed. They'll be free range mostly, but I think I should supplement to get eggs, no?
New hens, organic feed???
I think I'm in love!!!! those girls look like Golden Comet!! check Tractor Supply and see what they have for feed..they will lay..and it doesnt take much extra..just maybe some oyster shells as a supplement for hard shells.
good luck you'll have OCD just like the rest of us!!

I think Purina makes an organic chicken feed.
Well Congratulations Analemma!! Welcome! Beautiful birds there. So glad to hear they will free range.. that is just so important. (to me anyway) Good luck!
Analemma WELCOME!!! Gorgeous girls there!
Tractor supply store may have it. If not they can order it for you. Even an AGWAY can order it. Congrats! Enjoy your new girls. :)

I just got two babies too. I would also like to feed them organic food. Can you grind up a cuttle bone, that you get for parakeets, to use for calcium instead of oyster shell? I have been feeding them chick starter that I bought at the hatchery. I really don't know what's in it, but they really seem to be thriving.
