very cool! mine are looking really good but no blooms yet

Miami, FL(Zone 10a)

We have some Colocasias around here that, when they bloom, smell somewhat like ripe papayas.

My Colocasia esculentum have been flowering for the past few months, but their spathes never open. They just stay tightly wrapped as in the photo. Never noticed any odour from them, not that I've really tried smelling them. Mine are the native variety we have growing in the creeks and swamps.

Tropicbreeze I notice in your photo the leaves of your Colocasia are pointing upward. Is this common for your variety? If so I would love to see more photos of it.

Any chance of a closer pic of the colocasia formosa flower. I am wondering what separates this specie from esculenta

Bwilliams, sorry for not being able to get back to you earlier, I've been away in PNG, still on my way home but in an internet cafe at the moment.

Mine, in the photo, is Colocasia esculentum. The leaf you can see is just a young one, a bit crowded and unable to hang down as it normally would.

First time I've ever seen a bloom on one of my Elephant Ears. I dug this one a few weeks ago and planted in a bog area, it has only produced one leaf so far, then popped out a bloom. Can you id it by the bloom?

Very interesting bloom on the Colocasia formosa.

The last flower is off of a Xanthosoma possibly sagittifolium

Thanks for the id on the Xanthosoma, I checked and sure enough the leaf is split all the way to the stem. I never even noticed that the leaves were different from the Colocasia bulbs I bought at Wally World.
