Coleus

I just purchased a coleus, the center is pink and then maroon on the edges.
would like to know what other plants I can pair it with. I have it in a pot.

I have sweet potato vines with mine. There's the lime colored ones and the darker ones. I think that they're pretty cascaded around the edges.

Starr, what kind of location did you have in mind for it? Is the pot its permanent home?

I grow coleus of all varieties--some in pots, some in the ground. In my opinion, the very best companion plant in a pot is impatiens. I do occasionally put other things in the pot (such as electric blue annual lobelia). But the impatiens will have a similar life cycle, so they'll last until first frost along with the coleus. The good thing is that you can find impatiens in a variety of colors, so you can match them to whatever will best set off the coleus variety.

I have also found that coleus in the ground is striking enough all by itself, without planned companions. They are still small when everything else is blooming. But around the end of June, when my perennials are playing out in the heat, coleus is just coming into prime time. They will get big, set off just about any shade of non-blooming plant, brighten up a dark area, and in general just be really pretty all by themselves.
