I have about 150 Columbines I started from seed and they are being decimated by a 3/4 inch long green worm. Does anyone know of an organic pest control for these?
Thanks,
jb
Pest Control
As, yes, the 3/4" green worm.. I know it well. As for organic pest control, the best one for these guys is to go out at night and pick them by hand. Drop them into a bucket of ammonia water or salt water, or just squish them. I don't think they stay around long, but by the time they are gone, your plants may be gone, too.
I have used the Squish method, but for these there just to many and too many plants. I picked up a bottle of Safer's Caterpillar killer. It's active ingredient is BT (Spelling???(Bascillus thurengensis). I have sprayed twice and they are much reduced. I plan to continue spraying for a week or so. It says that it's safe for humans and pets. I'm crossing my fingers as these little guys also go for our deciduous azaleas and have, in the past, practically denuded them.
We hates the little Green worms precious.

GOLUM!
I LOVE LOTR.
Sorry, I know nothing about the little green worms.
Well the little green worms are dead. In this case the BT worked wonders. I'll continue to spray for another few days. Hopefully they won't come back after I stop. But if they do I'll just hit them again.
