please help w on-line vendors of obelisks and tuteurs?

Portage, MI(Zone 5b)

I want to buy some obelisks so I can buy more clematis vines to grow here and there in my main flower garden, which is a large mixed border (roughly 18 by 110). The only obelisks I have found in local stores are vinyl-coated, fine for sweet-pea back in the cutting garden, but not okay for focal points in the main flower garden.

Can you please tell me your favorite online vendors for obelisks and tuteurs?

What height would you recommend for clematis as vertical accents?

(My preferred style is cottage or romantic or old-fashioned.)

Much obliged!!!

I bought some wrought iron arched trellises, nothing fancy though, from WalMart last week for 10.59 each. They are only 60" though, and I wanted 72". I ordered some black coated steel trellises from Gardener's Supply last month when they were having their free shipping offer, and am pleased with those. One of the DGers in McKinney, TX bought a beautiful pillar from Tuesday Morning yesterday, so I'm going to check that out while I'm in Dallas today. The Plow and Hearth website has some pretty structures, and I got an email today from them with a free shipping offer. I can't get my email server currently, so can't look to see the exact offer. Also a free shipping offer from Kinsman Garden Company, but I haven't looked to see what they have yet.

A couple of years ago I bought 3 different height pillars from Jackson and Perkins for a pretty good price, so you might check that out.

KINSMAN is the best online source i believe.

Thanks for asking this question.... I hadn't tried Kinsman before. I found a few at our local Lowe's store that were nice. I did notice that they aren't shown on the Lowe's website, though... so I don't know if they are offered in all Lowe's stores nationally. I have purchased some of my towers via J&P and was happy with what I received. They have an annual sale on the "Structures" items; I would call and ask when the sale will take place before ordering. Sometimes, if they know you are waiting for a sale, J&P will offer you an online special so that they can get the sale then without you hanging up and purchasing elsewhere. This has happened twice for me with J&P in the past.

and someone mentioned "odd lots" too. i have a neighbor who got beautiful trellis pieces for 15 $ each there. you have to check all the time, which i do not do, vs go when you need something......

It's too dangerous for me to shop at Big Lots or Tuesday Morning. Because their inventory continuously changes, I get this "gotta get it now or I'll never see it again" mentality as soon as I step in the door. ANYTHING that I can imagine a use for ends up going home with me, whether I planned on it or not! I'm much better shopping with a mission as opposed to window shopping. =P

Wow Jeanne those trellises are soooo neat. I have never seen those before......I can only imagine how pretty the whole thing would look with clematis covering them!!!

I didn't find the pillar that I was looking for at Tuesday Morning, but I found a 6' trellis and a plant stand that I brought home. Here's the stand

Irwell..how pretty..love that stand..Jeanne

I was pleased. The problem with planters is that they tend to be the same height, so it can be challenging to create some disparity. I'm always on the lookout for something to use as a stand.
