Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know anything about this water plant. I have a small pond area so I don't want anything to invasive or big. I do want something, and my garden is dedicated to butterflies. I thought about posting to butterfly board but since it is a water plant I thought I might have better luck here.
Thanks for your input!
Does anyone know about???Butterfly Flower; Swamp Milkweed
the swamp milkweed is great for the butterflies.. i have one in a shelf in the pond.. it is 2 1/2 feet tall.. butterflies love it, although, i havn't seen coccoons yet (i have frogs). been two years.. the monarchs do come and visit frequently.. the flowers are a pretty pink, I have the 10 inch pot in the pond on a ledge, never fully submerged.... you should look into tropical milkweed as well - an annual where i am (found out by trying it) but the monarchs couln't get enough of it before it died over the winter.. I understand that you should have 2 different milkweeds, the swamp and another softer type, I have a common milkweed that I moved from a nearby pond.. from what I understand is the butterflies and the caterpillars prefer two different types.. any will work - but a tropical and a swamp weed are the perfect mix....you are almost guarenteed eggs on a tropical.

Thanks for the info... I have ordered it and can't wait to get it! I tried to get a "butterfly weed" from my local nursery but no luck.. I told him it was a type of milk weed. He said he had one coming in a couple of weeks. I said I don't need a butterfly bush.. He said he knows exactly what I am wanting. I went each week and last week he gave me you guessed it a butterfly bush... I have one of those! :) BTW It gets huge. I guess I will have to order it via internet as well!
I really appreciate your help!
good luck.. when i first tried to get them i went through the same thing... still have one of the bushes.. but same drama.
good luck!
