I saw something a bit ago that I have never seen before. I saw a very large crow fly thru the yard carrying a presumably dead robin by the wing. It took it over into the woods where they hang out. I have put chicken carcasses over there and they eat love them. We know they eat road kill. We are assuming the crow found the robin already dead. Would that be a correct assumption?
Crow Behavior Question
Most likely, though crows have been known to kill birds on occasion.
Once saw a crow catch and carry off a half-grown young rabbit - it was the rabbit screaming that drew my attention to it. So they can definitely be active and effective predators.

Nanny, we saw the same thing a few weeks ago and were quite surprised by it. A male Red Wing Blackbird had been sick for a couple of days and was declining rapidly. He flew/hopped out into the yard and we saw a crow make a pass over him, turn around and grab him. The rest of the flock immediately flew over with much screaming and threatening and the crow dropped him but picked him back up and flew away. That was a first for me!

I wish I would have had the camera. At first I had thought it was one of the hawks...I found it very intriguing anyway.
Thanks Resin.
