Violet Prickly Pear
Opuntia gosseliniana var. longispina

Slow grower-and don't those usually make the best plants?

BayAreaTropics,
Looking at the spines' color and rigidity & the shape of the pad, Opuntia macrocentra v. minor would be a more accurate ID.

The intensity of the purple color does vary depending on the clone and amount of stress the plant is experiencing.

If you agree, your two images of this plant could be moved to the right page.

(I know I said before that it was O. gosseliniana v. duranzilla, but I had a couple more close looks at it and have determined that it is actually O. macrocentra v. minor)

bump. please read previous message above.

You had it right as Duranzilla-- as the flowers on them are pure yellow.

The spines and the pads and the growth style are an exact match for O. macrocentra v minor though.
O. gosselinniana v duranzilla has completely different spines and pads.
There must be some mistake somewhere as far as the flower goes.
Did you get photos per chance?

I might Xeno..but they are buried in the PC. Not sure. But they are pure yellow-no exception.
