Hi, It is Brenda, Thank you for all of your kind words. I am having open heart surgery tomorrow(monday). I am bit nervous, but have been told by the Dr's my choices are 100% chance of death with out, 10% with it. The odds look good to me.

I am feeling as well as I can having been put in bed rest for 5 days. Spring finally arrived and I have to sit in the hospital and look out at it. I begged them to let me just walk outside for a few minutes, but they would not budge.

I will post again as soon after my surgery as I can, but Gary will no doubt update.

Again, thanks

Brenda, my thoughts are prayers are with you..

Spoke to Brenda's husband yesterday and everything went well. She was in intensive care after the surgery but the doctors say that the operation went off without a hitch. I just heard that she is off the respirator as well now so I'm sure we'll be hearing from her real soon.

Chickenville, FL(Zone 9a)

Praying for you Brenda. So glad all went well. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

I spoke to Brenda today and she really sounds like her old self. She is anxiously awaiting the day that she can go home and get her brugs outside now that the weather has warmed up in NY.

glad she's doing so well. She'll have a limit of not lifting anything over 10lbs for a few weeks.

Congratulations Brenda.. I bet you'll enjoy the new you.. more energy.. and strength.. glad to hear it went so well.. All the best.. in getting yourself out of there now... and ready for the northern round up..

Watertown, NY

I am home, slowly getting better. I did however manage to get about 17 people to refuse their food trays one day. There is just no excuse for the porr quality of food they served in the otherwise wonderful hospital. I was told it was economic.

I did have open heart surgery, and actually considering the short time I am doing well. I am pretty much off the meds and tonight hope to be able to sleep in my own bed.

My brugs(thanks to DH) are all outdoors and showing positive reaction to the pleasent seasons change.

Copperas Cove, TX

Brenda that is just wonderful news! Wishing you continued speedy recovery.

I know it is not funny that the food is aweful at the hospital. But that you got so many folks to strike...and what gordo said, I just had to laugh

I knew it! ;)

There comes a time in life when one's own bed affirms rightness with being and settles us into a kind of comfortable gratitude...
Time stands still and the smell of wind dried sheets is a better perfume than all others.
Being there whispers, "Yes, you're still alive, a participant in the working out of so many things."
Very exciting stuff.

From my heart to yours Brenda...

I am home, doing okay. We have had a few set backs, but those too shall pass. I just need to find enough strong healthy people to come help me do all of this brug work.

DeRidder, LA(Zone 9a)

Brenda, I just came across this post and was shocked to read about your heart surgery. So glad your doing much better.

If we lived closer, I'd help you with your gardens. I know your granddaughter is a big help to you in that department.....she's like a "little mini Brenda" when it comes to brugmansia growing.

God Bless!

Dollie

Watertown, NY

Hi Dollie,

Good to hear from you. I am doing well, probably better then we expected. Still have some pain but I can live with that. My brugs are looking good. I really have too many, but can't part with any of them.

Emily has been great. She still loves plants and gardens. We are going to her house tomorrow and plant to take a few more brugs out to her.

How are all of your wonderful brugs doing. I have so many new ones over the last year. I just came in from looking at them(that is about all i can do). I am very pleased with how they look right now and sure hope to see flowers early this year.

I still owe you a box. I will give my plants a few weeks to get some growth and send you a box of ones I know you do not have.

Take care and stay in touch

DeRidder, LA(Zone 9a)

Brenda, You DO NOT worry about sending me a box....your to take care of yourself, and that means getting plenty of rest....not boxing up plants for me. We'll catch up with each other, maybe in FL. again and do an in-person brug swap....that's more fun anyway ;)

I had a feeling Emily would be a big help with your gardening, even at her young age. Your very blessed to have a granddaughter that shares your love of gardening.

Glad your health is better. You take care and God bless!

Dollie

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

I haven't been on the brug forum for quite a while, so was shocked to find this thread. Brenda, so glad you are doing well, and hope you will be able to make the trip down south in October. Do take care of yourself. Remember that hosta you gave me? It's looking the best ever. What was the name of it? Pineapple Upside Down Cake? Was that for real? My million bells is still blooming too.

Cannagirl, I expect to see you at the next swap!
