Hope I'm not asking a question I should know. But what are RU? I've been told of rattlesnake RU. In general what are they and all?

RU is our plant swaps & usually, the best pot luck dinners you've ever had. It's a day of putting faces with all these strange names you keep writing to! Great plants, great food, & great friends!!!

Sorry, I didn't notice where you lived & don't know off the top of my head where there would be one closest to you but there has to be DGers out in your area.
The very first Texas RU was on the Oklahoma side of Lake Texoma. We kept hearing about DGers having them in other states & so we decided to have one down our way! lol I was living in Katy then!!!

When we had the first one, it was held @ a park that had little bldgs like a KOA. Three of us stayed in one & felt like we were going to camp again! lol
They sound fun. I'd like to make one, if it was close, my car might not go too far.LOL

The one in Arlington (North Central Texas) might be much closer to you. You're sorta out in the middle of nowhere, but you might consider starting one for your area.
You are about the same distance from Arlington and College Station, they are having one May 9th,

Arlington is 254 miles from me and college station is further. My old car won't make it.
Does anyone catch rides from another going that way? Or does everyone make it on their own?

RU - Round Up? I get it now! All this time and I never knew what it was, either!!!

I am totally new here...and also just started a brand new garden this year as we moved so am just starting out. on the round up.....this year I wouldn't have anything to bring or swap...so does that exclude me from coming...sorry if this is a stupid question...the round up concept is totally new to me.
No, it doesn't exclude you from coming. I can guarantee that you will not leave empty-handed! While there is pre-arranged trades, many people bring lots of extras to trade and give away on the day of the round up. There's great food, lots of good discussion about plants and stuff, and a door prize giveaway. It's also a great way to put faces with names and meet in person many of the great folks here.
I have been a member for a few years but just moved last year into a preowned but new house for me. I don't have anything to trade either. I still plan to go to the CSRU again. I will bring some food for lunch and/or snacks, my own drinks and several things for the door prizes. The prizes each cost $5 or under (I think there are 4). There are so many DGers that I haven't met in person and the list of members has grown since I was there in '07 so I am anxious to meet everyone I can and put names w/faces and see if they really are as wacky as they seem....LOL. I will have my little camera so I can take my own personal pictures to remember the RU and the people attending. This swap, RU whatever you want to call it, is for everyone who reads and takes part in DG and trades aren't necessary. You will probably go home w/a ton of things that other people have grown, made, etc and are weeding out of their collections and want to share w/others. Bring old newspapers, or something that can cover your car interior and trunk, some cold drinks (non-alcoholic), water, etc and perhaps a comfortable folding chair and wear your going-to-a-picnic knockabout clothes. You will meet some memorable people who are knowledgeable and friendly and will be so glad to meet you. There will be swaps - some already done except for the actual taking the swap and some that are instantaneous and the growers will be able to tell you exactly how to grow what you get and answer your questions on why doesn't such and such do well in my yard, etc. Don't be shy. Come and enjoy - you will ENJOY!

thank y'all! I am looking forward to it and will try to make it. even if I don't come home with any plants it will be nice just to fellowship with other gardeners and get tips and ideas.

What is the CS (RU)?
I can testify that what everyone is saying is true. The Arlington RU was my first. I didn't know I could come until the (real) last minute. I was late, so missed the picnic and didn't have anything to trade. I still had fun, met many nice people (wish I'd thought to take a camera), and yes, brought home some plants. GREAT GROUP!! I look forward to the next one and having time to visit more and get to know more of you. I'll also bring a notebook to write down instruction for the plants I take home. Seems like the memory part of my brain checks out when the other part is trying to do business. Guess that goes with being 68.
I wish there were enough people out my way (Burleson) to have a RU out here at my place. We live out in the country (about 15 minutes east of I-35) with plenty of parking space, a pavillion (about the size of the Randol Mill Park one), a very large b-b-q pit and lots of room for table set up. Let me know if there's any interest, otherwise, I'll just wait until I hear about something in this area.

I'm checking out for a few days. We're going to Austin for DH's 50th high school reunion (big three day event). They've really worked hard. I'm shopping today (hopefully only today), so I won't shame my poor Jeff. Pray for me to have good results. I probably haven't really shopped for about 8 years. Just doesn't call to me. Sams' Club is my mall. Ha! Anyway, I gotta get a thing or two--just hope it doesn't take forever.

I think I posted on the wrong thread because that is the one I had meant to say I was going to try to make,lol. I got confused!! the only thing that will keep me from it is if I can't wiggle out of my grandson's tball game in malakoff. he is 6 and he told me in all seriousness that I WOULD be there for every game,lol. he and I are very close and he calls me every day...sometimes as his mama says "just to hear my voice".
