Need Photos - Hellebore or Daphne

Vancouver, WA

Right now I am doing a website for a landscaper. The site will have plants of the month. Anyhow January is Helleborus "Christmas Rose" hellebore niger. I cannot find any "good" stock images of this pretty plant.

If anyone has any photos they wouldn't mind us using I would be very grateful. While it would be great to get a "Christmas rose" I would be happy with ANY Hellebore photo.

Also if anyone has Winter Daphne I could use a photo

We would of course give ya'll credit on the site.

try this web site. They seem to have a nice selection for sale.

I have quite a few hellebore pics--both clumps and single flowers. Almost all are the purple/red varieties, and most are unnamed, but would be happy to share if you would like any of them. Photos are definitely ameture quality, so what you see is what you get. I have listed a few in the most recent Hellebores and other conversations thread. Let me know.

Thanks so much Raregem. Your photos are great! I hate looking at the Hellebores thread because there are so many beautiful varieties, I seriously think they may be my new favorite flower.

Is it okay if I use this particular photo (I will have to crop it if that's okay):

Also please Dmail me with your name so that I can give you photo credits on the website.
Thanks!

DBower, sorry to poke my finger in here - but the landscaper is being paid by his clients who use the website, you presumably are being paid by the landscaper for setting up the site, and yet the gardener supplying you with the photos is getting nothing except a byline. Hmmmm.

Hey Laurie, I can see your point. I can understand if people don't want to give photos for free and that is fine, but I am also free to ask for contributions because there are many photographers that just like seeing their work used and being credited on a site.

There is actually a site I use called sxc.hu and another called morguefile.com where there are many professional and amateur photographers that post great photos for people to use for free and they only get crediting. They just didn't have the photos of two particular plants I needed so I decided to ask here since there are a lot of plant photographers on davesgarden.

On a site note I have also contributed to these sites but I mostly take photos of urban places - not so good at taking photos of flowers - and yes it is for free. I have also done illustrations for free for open source books, so while maybe credit isn't as nice as a paycheck some people don't mind and find pleasure in seeing work published.

Last of all I am not getting paid for this site, it is a barter situation. So yes I do get something in return although I could ask my client to pay for photos but instead I asked here before going out and taking them on my own or asking him to take them- since like I said, there are a lot of great photographers on this site - many of which might be okay with being credited.

Thanks for your input though...

Perhaps, D, its best to explain all of that first. If you had stated you were doing a quid pro quo or working in a charitable capacity, it is a very different slant. And even in a barter arrangement, it is worth keeping in mind that barter is payment. And yes, I do appreciate that there are a lot of 'just for credit' uses, but I think all too often the artist gets overlooked and their work taken for granted.
