We are thinking about you and praying for all of you. Love and Prayer, Smokey

I knew about it but was still stunned to see the pictures on the news tonight. Sadly, there is isn't supposed to be a cloud in the sky this week and they badly need rain to put that fire out.

Thanks Debi, I am about as far away from them as could be. Myrtle Beach is in the top corner of the state close to NC, and we are in the bottom close to GA.

I started to go through the members list for that area but I couldn't tell who might be in the actual area of the fire. I think BSD in Conway is pretty close.

Please stay safe everyone and let us know you are OK.

We have been in a terrible drought here in the upstate. I would have thought that it would be us having fires. It looks like something you see out west.

count your blessings, smokey.

alice, i did check the map and i'm glad you are far away from them.

we're in a drought situation here too, have been for a long time now. it's scary.

Thanks for your concerns for Horry County. The fire started on Saturday as a small brush fire at a home off Hwy 90. It was considered OK but evidently was not followed up by the fire dept. By Wed we had winds around 25-26 mph. Hot spots were found that morning mostly between Hwy 22 and Hwy 31. which actually backs up to Hwy 90. By Wed. night we had a massive forest fire that went into a new residentual area behind Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach.
Conway is about 20 miles from N Myrtle so we were not directly affected and we only know what has been on the news and in the papers. All highways to this area are blocked. Hopefully by tomorrow am we will know how to assist all of those who lost their homes. It is so sad because this was an area where mostly retired people had either bought or built their homes.
Thanks for your concerns and I'll keep you updated.

keeping you all in my thoughts.

Columbia, SC(Zone 7b)

BSD, if you know of folks who lost their homes or gardens and have no insurance to replace things, please let us know how we can help, if it is with household good, funds, seeds, fertilizer, veggie starts, etc. Many home vegetable gardens may have been harmed, and some folks do not have the additional funds to replant, yet they rely on the extra food that their gardens give them, or the extra 'egg money' that it brings in.

You might know the agency that is best serving those in your area that are being ignored or underserved by agencies that are in plce. I was a volunteer for the Katrina evacuees and having someone on the ground that knew exactly who to contact or where to send assistance was a godsend.

Neighbors helping neighbors, in ways large and small.

Keep us posted and know that our prayers for safety and heavy rains to help keep the fires from coming back are with you every moment.

Thank you, Lorie. At this time I do not have any info. regarding assisting those who have lost their homes. This is an area that is managed by a HOA so there are definately no veggie gardens. It is strange how some homes were completely burned to the ground and one next to it was just slightly scorched. They are saying the ones with pinestraw around the house and flower beds are the ones that burned. However, these homes are very close together, built on concrete slabs and are all covered with vinyl sideing and are on lots that are about 60-70' wide. The are backed with woodland areas that also included marsh land. Lots of peat moss !!
At the present time, Red Cross is in charge and will only take monetary donations. Our church (Kingston Presbyterian) will be looking into disaster relief this coming week and I will keep you updated.
Thanks again for caring for our neighbors. Keep them in your prayers.
Barbara
