This is Yasmin. She is 2 weeks old.
She was born to a momma that got bred too young and did not milk up so Yasmin has to be bottle fed. Her owners did not have the availability to do that so my friend who has tons of goats and bottle feeds became Yasmin's knew mommy.

My Friend Got a YAK
Very cute! Very fuzzy!
Very interesting, isn't a yak out of some kind of strain of cattle??? Haystack
They are a Bovinae but not really cattle.
A baby Yak.. how cool is that?!!! so cute!
That is awesome! ohhhhh Claire....
Gimme a Yak and I'll Yak ya back.
Tee hee sewincircle ^_^ I didn't know there were yaks in NA. Are they native to OR beadmomamie? Where do they yak about? They need to change the song to mi mi mi
♪♪Hoooooome hooome on the raaaaange
Where the yaaaaaks and the antelope plaaaaaay..... ♪♪
I don't think Yaks are native to Oregon..
For the most part Oregonians aren't even native to Oregon.
This one resides in Redmond and considering the range of the present owners vehicle said Yak was born somewhere nearby.

I have heard that about Oregonigones beadmomamie. They were native to CA until the fruit police ran them out during the Great Oranges vs Apples War.
Cool! Bet she scares the pants off egg stealing/goat nabbing hooligans! Guard Yak just got entered in the Great Book of Lists in the "Animals I Need" section.
I can't look at her too much, it makes me want one too bad.
AHA! NA yaks are native to IA! Now we know.
I think I read somewhere that yak wool (hair? - not sure what it is technically) is warmer than sheep wool.
Makes sense gallesfarm. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yak
"Yakkity-Yak, don't talk back"! Loving the yak! Too freaking cool : )
Why the huge difference in size between the wild and domestic yaks? Are they actually different subspecies or something?
Good question! They are just sweet looking. Kinda like the cows.
The side different can be partly domestication-breed for larger side and better feed.
I would understand it if the domesticated yaks were larger but wikipedia says they are a lot smaller. Do they breed for a more manageable animal or are the people who use them unable to afford to feed them well?
Domestication of the yak occurred approximately 4000 years ago. I would suspect that the original animals that were chosen for domestication by the Tibetan people were smaller in stature because they were easier to manage and handle for domestication purposes. Thus I would suspect that continued selection over such a long time for smaller animals has resulted in the size differences.
Sun stroke. Miss read about size.
Also a smaller Guard Yak wouldn't need a large guard house.
Darn sun stroke! Take it easy Wren. Good to see you though. Hows Florida?
I am heading to Boston tomorrow. I will be gone til next Monday.
Sew it is hot down here. 80 degrees in the shade. I have been working in the garden, have 20 tomato plants, corn, and other veg all growing in large pots . I am biking with my dog and my friends dog.. 1.8 miles each in the morning and 2 miles each in the afternoon. My friends dog is a husky and he makes me work. But I am losing weight. Will be around
I got a call from home and it was snowing and raining to beat the band......grrr.
I bet that Yak is cold....or maybe not.. I think she's in a barn.
Ginger
Probably snug as a bug in her guard house beadmomamie
Beadmom, you should submit Yasmin's pix to Cute Overload!
http://cuteoverload.com/submissions/
For those of you who haven't heard of Cute Overload, it's an awesome site that posts cute animal pix several times a day. Keeps me smilin' even at work.
I just love that sweet lil yak face. Go Yasmin!
Hmm..I think I'll have to add "yak" to my list of animals I'd like to own
Beadmom, whatever happened to Yasmin the yak?
Good question porkpal ^_^ Scuse us beadmomamie, what's the scoop on the Guard Yak please?
Have been traveling and not kept up.....I will find out!

Ginger!
Yeah.. I've been off working & pouting.
All in one week my beautiful new gazebo blew away and is hopelessly damaged because my DH minus the "D" at the moment, did not listen to me and stake it down....and the Dr. (notice i didn't say MY doctor..since I never get to see MY doctor and the one I am seeing I don't like much) dumped the diabetic word on me a bunch of rules and meds and poking holes in me...none of which I do well and told me I have to change my hormone therapy and will require SURGERY...
My lawn tractor blew the tranny...it is warrantied but they said will be at least a month which is almost all the rest of summer. I have taking up growing a virtual farm on facebook since it seems to be less hassle. I bet my virtual donkey is going to get in and eat my crops.
On a good note..this morning saw my first Clem bloom and 9 weeks from today I'll be in Paris.
Grumpy Beadmomamie
So sorry to hear of your woes beadmom hope the future holds better news to come. {{{HUG}}}
Paris sounds so wonderful i would love to go there you must come back and tell us all about your trip :~)
sorry for your troubles.
Please bring back a lot of pictures!!!!
I go once a year to visit my DD who right now lives here...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Château_de_Touffou2.jpg
Really... third window at the top is her room...
Next year she is going to be teaching in Angouleme. We always meet in Paris and go from there. After a couple weeks in France I go meet my friend for 10 days in Ireland.
I am REALLY looking forward to it this year...
Ginger
Poor Beadmomamie!!! Hope things are looking better.
DH...notice the "D" has returned...is building me a HUGE arbor/gazebo where the windswept one used to be....as soon as the tripple digits go back down it should be finished...
on a sad note my 20 yr old kitty apparently wandered off to die :(
Not unexpected but sad.
