I think either a female Yellow-breasted chat or a female Summer Tanager. Do either of those seem right?
CLOSED: I'm pretty sure it's a female but female what?
Now wait for a second opinion, lol...but I think it is a female Summer Tanager Elphaba.
I hope so! That's what I think too, but it seems weird that I've never seen one before and this week I definitely saw a male and now a female.
I have a seedling of that Mulberry tree that is now about 4' tall. I can't wait for it to get big and full of fruit, so I'll have all these cool birds in my yard where I can get a better picture!
Yep, definitely Summer Tanager

One day Nanny, you and I will be as definite as Resin! Thanks for your help!
NAY..... LOL!!!
About 4 pm this afternoon I was looking at the flowers and birds outside and suddenly spotted something strange: an orange and black bird on one of the loquat trees. And another and a couple more. Beautiful birds. Never have seen anything like them. Looked them up and they appear to be Baltimore Orioles - black heads, black and white wings and when they fly away from you there is orange at the outer tips of the tail. Of course, the body is orange. Never thought that I would see something like that down here. The info I have said that during this time of year they are migrating north thru the SE part of the state and up the east part of the state, even mating along the way in east Texas and then to home. They are too quick for me to get a picture of them and I'm not sure that my camera is that good anyway.

The end of April, in my opinion, the best birding time of the year in this area. I saw a Baltimore Oriole about a week ago. Yesterday morning, I saw a Kentucky Warbler and this morning a Hooded Warbler. Didn't get pictures of either, but they are brightly colored too. They are quick and they like to hide in the brush where it's dark and difficult to get pictures. The Indigo Buntings are going through town too, so keep an eye out for them.
Congrats on seeing the oriole Ann! Somewhere near Katy there is a wildlife refuge that's supposed to have amazing birds. I bet they are full of migrating birds.
Yes, there is such a place in Katy. I think it's something like Katy Prairie. It was named when Katy really was all prairie. When I was growing up in SE Houston Katy was W A Y out in the country and even when we left for a spell of 15 years or so in about '90 Katy was just being developed.
Elphaba, are you going to the CSRU?
Ann
I haven't RSVP'd b/c I don't know if I can go. My parents will be visiting around that time. In fact, I need to call them back to get the dates. They are so old fashioned. They call and leave a message to call so they can tell me when they are coming instead of leaving the dates on the machine or sending a quick email. I guess I'm the old fashioned one b/c I hate talking on the phone and most people have one glued to their ears these days. Answer is maybe.
