Whats wrong with my potatoes?

Coronado, CA(Zone 11)

I'm trying some Potaotoes in containers, the ones in the ground are fine but these guys in the pots are wilting away. Any one have any ideas as to what is going wrong?

I'd bet that they are too dry...what is the soil in the container like if you poke your finger into it? How is it different that the potatoes in the ground?

Whenever I get leaves that look like that it's usually sucking bugs(Aphids, whiteflies, etc...) If no bugs it's too much water.

The pots do look a bit dry on top. How does it look 4 inches down? Too dry can do that to leaves as well as does too wet. It looks very stressed.

BTW, that watermelon plant needs a lot more soil in it's container :)

That looks like it has a lot of peat in it. I can never get the water right with that stuff and don't use it. If it is really dry, you can run the hose in there for a long time and the center will still be dry. If it's too wet, the surface will form a dry crust which makes it difficult to tell what's going on without the finger test. The best and only use for peat is as an amendment to true soil IMHO.

It's moist all the way down. Maybe it's too much watering, The ones in the ground are dry every morning when I water them and these guys are moist. I'll fill in the melons first thing tomorrow thanks!

Yup, probably too much water then. I've seen it with mine last year. Dry it out a bit. When watering, use less. It usually took a few weeks for mine to get back on track.
