Is Alocasia sanderiana a species and 'Nobilis' a cultivar?
It seems obvious that it would be yes to both, but searching
for sanderiana only seems to turn up the cv. 'Nobilis'.
What is the difference?
Does anyone else on the aroid forum collect species Alocasia?
I would like to find a sanderiana (as well as other sp. - I know, "good luck") LOL
They are out there. ---Thanks----
Alocasia Question re: Sanderiana
A. sanderiana is the species, 'Nobilis' is a cultivar name. Nobilis has particularly deep cut lobes when compared to the "regular" sanderiana. The only one in TC, as far as I know, is Nobilis. Here's a link to my article on it:

Yet another great article. I think I have read them all. LariAnn I would like to know do you have photos of Alocasias in the wild especially the jewel types? I think I have only seen 1 or 2 photos. One photo was what looked to be a longloba form growing near a limestone out crop and another was a step mud slow in a forest area. I am just so curious as to how these plants survive when they seem so picky in cultivation.
