I have my seedlings still in the greenhouse but the weather has been lovely and I am thinking of setting them out.
these are my first cross-babies so i'm looking for some suggestions from the more experienced folks.
do i leave them in their pots or should i put them in the ground?
how much should i fertilize them, just as much as the regular established ones, more or less?
i'm hoping there'll be something pretty among the batch!
should i set out my seedlings now?
As a experienced cold climate grower ..
I would leave them in the greenhouse until I am SURE all changes of frost/freeze and gone.
Bump them up a pot if you have to.
What is your cross for these babies?
Alice
alice, thanks, we're a week past our last frost date, tomatoes are planted out so i think we're done with the cold.
painted lady x new orleans lady
painted lady x monkey shine
rubirosa x pink smitty (i have one seedling from seeds someone shared with me)
all the ones left in the ground over winter are starting to poke they're little heads out. surprisingly, the fastest to pop out was snowbank which is my slowest grower.
i killed peanut, it's in a pot in the greenhouse and looking like a dried stick.
Don't give up completely on Peanut. I've had regrowth from the soil line on some Brugs. Chances of regrowth improve with the size of the plant.
How many do you have? You could do what I do & drag them outside & back in as the the weather allows. They are not just plants, they are a form of exercise. LOL Just be sure to let them harden off & gradually adjust to outside.
Linda
so i set the first 16 of them out - and they promptly got sunburned. oh, they are so ugly now!
Patience .. Patience .. Patience ..
