This big guy was right beside the trail at Brazos Bend State Park, TX today. I could have touched it.........if I was a total idiot... :-) I could not resist getting an eye shot when he decided to check me out.

This photo is posted on the wrong form. It should have been posted in the wildlife form, following is a link to the wildlife form:

So sorry, I will not do it again.
Chris
nice pic. ... whatever forum you post it on.. i think ayone would ejoy it..
Oh from time to to time other critters find their way here..I have been known to post a cow or such now & then!
But no doubt people on the wildlife thread would love to see your photos too!
Don't think it matters - it's the same set of people who use both this forum and the wildlife one.
And crocs are more closely related to birds than they are to lizards ;-)

How true!
Really! Crocs are closer cousins to birds than to lizards. Wow, learned a new thing today.
Well Hell! Since we've already soiled our nest, let's just post big lizard shot. Taken at OKC Zoo. I joined the OK Zoological Society and can visit the zoo for free. One of my New Year resolutions was to go to the zoo at least once a month. We enjoy the exercise as well as the animals and plants. I been 1 time this year. I promise, I am going to start going more. The other was to drink less.
I'm not sure what this thing is. Some kind of monitor lizard or maybe a Texas chameleon. :-)

Looks like one of the Australian monitor lizards.

It does resemble that lizard the Aussie had sunning on his lawn awhile back.
I can't imagine how scary it must be to have things like that in the yard and garden.
I'll bet you were bird watching when you came across it! How scary to think things like that can just be lurking next to a trail . . .
Talking of meeting danger on trails . . . a recent nasty one: http://arunachalnews.com/2009/04/elephant-tramples-dutch-tourist/
