Smiling 'gator

Sugar Land, TX

I went to Brazos Bend State Park, TX today and got some keeper shots. This alligator was up on the bank of one of the lakes, about one foot from the trail. They were everywhere today! More gators than I have ever seen in one day. I guess I saw about 25-30 different ones today.

Good thing it wasn't on the trail! Is the trail securely fenced to stop them getting on? Any risk of it climbing over the fence?

No fence, no barrier. They have the run of the place. There has never been an attack on a human, they just ignore people and do their own thing. I feel quite safe around 'gators.

I really like the way the algae shows up on its back. Very nice picture

Here in FL, encountering them on land from time to time, such as that, is really interesting.
I will say this tho. I like to go tubing around some of the springs up here. If I see one in the water...ooooo I dont like that. Same with snakes.

When we were young and had a house on one of these rivers...we would go out at night in little john boats and go gator hunting...looking for the red eyes, We were just kids...cant believe that was allowed...but we never got hurt. Those were the days..no' sex drugs and rock and roll' yet...lol

We complain about winter here, but I got to say, our winter keeps us alot safer bird watching (or tubing or gardening!)

Great picture. Thanks for posting.
(I am not sure it is smiling though)

Maybe it was making alligations about the people on the trail ;-)
