Wild raspberries

Lady's Island, SC(Zone 9a)

While cleaning out an isolated weedy area, I came upon some wild raspberries. They weren't getting much sun so I cleared the area and will mulch around them. How should I care for them to increase fruit-bearing? fertilizer? pruning? I know they have viruses that can spread to cultivated berries, but I don't have any and I am on five acres, so I'm not to worried about it.

Thanks for any advice!

Do not prune; cut canes to the ground AFTER they have born fruit. New canes will grow from the roots.

When I had a farm on a hillside, my biggest and tastiest wild berries grew in dappled shade, The difference in fruiting seemed to be related more to enough moisture than anything else. They WILL mildew if they don't get enough air movement... which means good spacing.

Thank you for that info. The area where the vines are growing is dappled shade now, was completely shaded. It is fairly moist there, so the rasps should love it!
