I have a 9 pack of collard greens from the nursery, there is about a 2in leggy stem before they leaf out. The tag says plant "container deep"
Well that just doesn't sound right because if I do that as they grow they will just topple over. Can I plant them deeper or will the stem rot?
Cheers

transplanting Collards
You can plant them a little deeper, but try not cover any of the stem that is not woody. If they are really leggy, You can put a stick down beside to hold them upright. Fortunately collards do not stunt easily, so they should grow out fine.
Thank you Farmerdill, I was beginning to worry no one would answer.
We grew collards last year (from seed) and they did kind of topple and the trunk sort of twisted a little. I was hoping to get a little better control of them this year but these stems seem a bit long.
