I bought several nice sized plastic display containers today at a discount outlet. They look like a small bird bath on a pedistal inside a larger container bottom. They will be ideal for displaying my sempervivum collection. My concern is that they are a thin cheap brown plastic that is likely UV resistant, but are so flimsy that I think they will not hold up long. So I am thinking of trying to paint or coat them with something that would protect from the UV, as well as strengthen them.
I was wondering if a thin layer of papercrete would work. Anybody ever try to do this or have other suggestions? I think it will be a problem to get something to adhere to the plastic.
I'll post a pic in the next day or so - weather too much of a mess today to get one.
Thanks
Preserving Plastic Pots
There is a new spray paint out now that sticks to plastic lke nobodys business. It comes in lots of colors and you dont need to prime or make a huge ordeal out of spray painting old plastic 'clay' pots. Its right with all the other other spray paint at HD or lowes.
Can you fill the pedestal with sand or rocks? Cute pot.
Great idea - but I think I should fill the pedestal only to the top edge of the bottom container (so I don't contribute to the top weight). I think I can get the top piece off and will give it a try. I paid only $3.99 for the container. Did I get a great deal or what?
I would love to find something like that!!
Filled the pedistal today per above and it does help the stability - planted some of it already. Thanks, cathy.
Dirtygirl, it was at a discount outlet and manufactured in canada.
Happy to help, once in awhile my brain kicks in, haha.
