Hello all. I have been in Macon, GA since November, 2007. Previous experience was in Northwest Arkansas and Miami, Florida--where everything is different. We bought a new home with a BIG yard, almost an acre. There was nothing but a few azaleas and boxwood, and lorapetelum. Now I have 4 raised beds and want more. But those original foundation beds around the house have a lot of red clay showing. We have put out mulch, but it seems to disappear, so I need a groundcover (s)that will grow on clay. Any ideas would be appreciated!
Ground covers for clay
Can you post a photo of the area you are discussing? How tall do you want your ground cover to be? What is the exposure of the foundation? Is it wet or dry? Do you want flowers or foliage? You should be able to grow almost anything that is appropriate for a foundation by amending your soil. That's not an expensive fix. I'm from NMB, so everything is indeed different than in Miami, but you have lots of options.
