Chick has hatched, will there be any more?

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

The first chick hatched (day 20) sometime last night and was waiting for me this morning. Found him about 8:30 when I heard cheeping from the bator. Seems to be fine. He is in the brooder now and has eaten crumbles. Didn't seem interested in the water when I dipped his beak. The pic is reddish from the heat lamp.

My grandchildren, DH and I have been watching chick TV all day. Only one other egg has a pip that I can see, and there is more cheeping coming from the bator. Here's the brooder setup. More chick picks when they arrive.

you very well could have more. They can hatch many days apart.

You newly hatched chicks will go up to 3 days absorbing their nutrients from themselves so don't worry if they don't eat or drink. That's why hatcheries can ship them in mass quantities right after they hatch.

Congratulations!!!!!! It's darling! Good luck on the rest of the hatch.

One more just hatched and one egg is pipped. I watched this one zip. He was really fast at it. Only 20 minutes to get the top off the egg. Now he's diving around the bator trying to get his legs under him.

Aren't they funny when they are all clumsy and wobbly - they just make me laugh!

How many eggs are there? Any more with pips? I'm tickled for you.. I know how exciting it is and how it seems you can stare a hole in the eggs! LOL

It's so fun to watch them snuggle together when they find each other too.. :)

Yeah!!! More babies. That one is cute. I bet all the others will be too!!! CONGRATS!!!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Hatching is stressfull... I got up so many times last night, I had to take a nap this afternoon. Chick watching is addictive.
Thanks to DH for holding the chicks for their pics.

Ginger, thanks. I appreciate it. I'm overstimulated as it is. #5 is cheeping and diving around the bator.

Congrats Beclu.. Now you know why we are so crazy in the hatching threads! Not only do ya get loopy being up and staring for so long.. but it's over the top exciting!

What does #5 look like? Darling pics!!!

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

That is wonderful!! Great pics.
I know exactly what you mean about being up all night listening and watching. It is stressful...then its over. ahhhh! Then you listen to peeping all night and such. hehehe
I sure do love it. :D

Way to go Beclu. Let me guess....you also read the Dragonriders of Pern series??!! One of my faves...

They are all adorably cute! I know what you mean about getting up in the night....curiosity is overwhelming.

ZZ - #5 hatched out dark like the 1st 2. Pics tomorrow.

Sewin - With only 4 in the brooder, the peeping isn't very loud. I'm sure that will change as they grow and I'll move them away from the bedroom door.

Claire - yes I've read all the Dragonrider books. I read a lot of scifi/fantasy. Dragons and chickens are related, aren't they?

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Yes.. Dragons and chicks are related.....so are fire lizards :)
