Aquilegias starting to bloom

Kannapolis, NC

Here are some pink aquilegias. Sorry. Didn't keep the tag and don't know what cultivar.

And here are the blue ones, not open yet:

Those are lovely. I will admire them from a far. I am kryptonite to aquilegias.

Really? They self-seed here like mad. In fact, I have plenty of seedlings to spread around.

Hemo, what sort of spot do you have them in?
I have 2 pots that I just bought and a bunch of seedings coming up from wintersowing.

Oh, how beautiful. You're not kryptonite Jenny, I think it is just too hot for them down here.

I have them near my back door entrance where they get sun from morning until about mid afternoon. They shouldn't be doing that well in that much sun, but they've made it for years in that spot, just happily reseeding and moving around. I tried transplanting some into a more shaded area but they didn't make it, although I'm not sure if it's because of the location or DH's propensity to pile leaves and grass in that area. He may very well have smothered them, poor things!

I just saw some cultivars at Logans in Raleigh (don't remember the name) that are listed as FULL sun. I can't believe that--I doubt that would work here in the South, but that's what the tag said......never seen that before. And, yes, Logan's had them in the full sun area.....

My 'Corbett' columbines are blooming from seeds wintersowed a couple of years ago -- a lovely pale yellow that's almost white. For several years, I had 'Nora Barlow' columbines, a deep purple-black, but they seem to have taken themselves off.

I usually wind up spraying the foliage later because of the ugly leaf miners. Grrrr.

What do you spray with for lead miners, fleurs?

I get those, too. Ugly little boogers.
