Amorphallus napalensis in bloom

Bessemer City, NC(Zone 7b)

Wanted to share this with you all. I received this a A. bulbifer and knew the first season that it wasn't-- it didn't make and corms on the leaf. I had read that A. napalensis is often found in shipments of bulbifer, so I anticipated that that was what I had. And it is.

The total show here is 31 inches bulb base to flower tip.

(Apologies for this blurry shot.)

The spathe is 10 inches in length.

Here's a better look:

Two wonderful textures and no "scent" so far:

Pebble-y.

The offsets are short and stubby-- 1 inch at most.

PS-- I was able to make leaf cuttings in 2007.

I should be getting 2 Konjacs this week, I can't wait! My first Amorphallus!

I like that one too, Tommy. I had one bloom in March.

The napalensis opened up some more on the 19th-- has some nice articulation as the front edge curves back a little and the spathe flattens out some. You can see the top portion of the stigmas-- making three distinct textures and colors.

I just noticed I misspelled Amorphophallus in the topic line . That word is really too long anyway :-))).

I got one of my Konjacs yesterday! Planted it in a mix or miracle grow/orchid bark and some extra perlite. I have the pot sitting on a heat mat inside.

Can't wait!
