I believe it is called Ricky Loving and it has black leaves with silver lining around them. Anyone heard of this or have this?
Ricky Loving?
I've never heard of nor seen it, but with a name like that, my curiosity was piqued so I consulted the ABS hybrid registry list and lo and behold there it is.
Here is the info;
B. 'Ricky Loving' (seed parent is ) B. 'Billy' X (pollen parent) B. heracleifolia v. sunderbruchii, a rhizomatous hybrid by Dillard of Kansas, registered in 1962
You may want to contact the Dallas branch of the ABS - there might be a member who is growing it.
Other hybrids by Dillard;
Chantilly Lace
Kathy Diane
China Doll http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/169809/ (available at Taylor Greenhouses, http://www.taylorgreenhouses.com/begonia-china-doll.html)
Geisha Doll
Black Falcon
Oriental Music
Persian Brocade (I've had this one, it's pretty readily available)
Enchantment
Randy
Orangeade (another one I have)
Fascination
Raspberry Parfait
Horace Dillard
Midget
Joses Firstmate
Chantilly Lace is available at Rob's Violets and China Doll at Accents for Home and Garden (they have a bigger plant and cost less than Taylor's). I wonder if Geisha Doll is similar to China Doll.
I forgot where I got Black Falcon (somebody in south AL or LA but this person is no longer on line).
His hybrids mus be good reliable ones for so many to have survived in cultivation!
Never seen Black Falcon, do you still have it? photo?
awesome info, I will have to check the Dallas ABS. Thank you much!
Do you have the link where you found it in the registry? I am not seeing it listed.
It's actually from a CD that I bought from the ABS several years ago. Some ABS registered hybrids are listed on the ABS web site. But not all.
ahhh ok gotcha.
