where to buy seed assortment...?

Charlotte, NC

There's no way I can use 20+ tomatoes, 20+ peppers, and / or 20+ of any type of vegetable plant. I'd like to find someplace I might purchase an "assortment" package. Is there anyone out there that sells something along the lines of:
10 seeds - Tomato "A"
10 seeds - Tomato "B"
10 seeds - Pepper "A"
10 seeds - Pepper "B"
10 seeds - PoleBean
10 seeds - Bush Bean
10 seeds - Zuchini
10 seeds - Squash
10 seeds Cucumber
etc...
I'd love to get a little veggi garden going and I suppose I could resort to purchasing a few plant starts from the local hardware stores but I'd much rather find some more interesting varieties than the Better Boy et all.

Any ideas? Unfortunately I don't have seeds to trade this year, otherwise I would try browsing some of your seed swap pages.

MulettMan.

I am sending out some seeds for a trade this weekend, and I would be happy to send you an "assortment" package.
Let me know what you want for "squash", and your preferences for tomato types.

Pinetree Garden Seeds has less expensive packets with very few seeds, if you wanted to go that route. I don't know if the numbers are as low as you're suggesting, though.

And I have lots of different varieties of heiroom maters, if Cyndie doesn't have what you're looking for, please let me know. I'm mailing on Monday....:)

Looking for descriptions of a specific pepper plant (Giant Acancogua) I came across this site, and it looks like it's just what you need. I don't know how reliable these people are, but take a peek:

Margo, thank you very much for the offer. I'll see what Cyndie and I can work out and let you know. I'm not trying to supply the local markets, just my wife, 13 month old son and myself :)

Thanks to everyone else for your time responding to my post.

Greenhouse_gal, the package that site offers is nearly perfect. I'll see what shapes up from a trade or two here on DG and perhaps fall back on single packages to fill in any blanks.

I am surprised there aren't any sites that allow customer to purchase X number of "tiny" packages from a selection of perhaps 100+ varieties. Something along the lines of:
Pick 3 packages from Group A (Old standby's like seen in Garden centers)
Pick 3 packages from Group B (oddities or unusual types)
Pick 3 packages from Group C (perhaps some heirloom types)
Pick 1 package from Group D (perhaps a rare variety)
Total cost - $$$

Each group above would contain selections from a number of fruit or vegetable types.

Most of my tomatoes are "oddball" types, and all but one (Rutgers Select) are Heirlooms of one sort or the other. I'm particularly fond of Bi-Color varieties, so let me know if you'd like to try one of those, or some summer squash varieties that are not "normal" :)

Good luck, I hope it works out for you, and just let me know if I can add to the addiction.

I think the reason that companies don't offer stuff like that is that it;'s too labor intensive for too little profit. Some Ebay'ers offer things like that, small amounts for low prices and combined shipping. I'm working on some now (not that I NEED more seeds, but there's this one favorite 'mater I couldn't find, and one that looks interesting.....)

p.s. Just noticed you're in Charlotte, I have a variety called Pink Ponderosa that thas done excellently for me. I saved seeds last year, and the germination has been very good, as well. Kind of late for this summer, but there's always next year....

And you and I can plant for the fall, as well *G*

Here's a place in the UK doing this: http://www.seedfest.co.uk/seeds/beans/beans.html#sets

I purchased some small seed packets (~10 seeds/packet) of heirloom veggies from:
www.cherrygal.com
I ordered from them for the first time this year, and was very pleased--everything seems to be germinating well, and shipping was prompt, and reasonable.

I've also seen some combo packets at some of the big box stores, as well as our local Do-It center (I think the seeds were probably from Burpees and Ferry Morse).
I also usually only need a small number of seeds per each type, but seeds can be carried over for several years, so even if I have to buy a larger packet, I usually can use or trade them.

Not exactly what you are looking for but Value Seeds (Thompson & Morgans unbranded outlet store), sells 10 sungold seeds for 99 cents, 80 Swiss Rainbow chard seeds for 99 cents, 100 Duro Giant Radish seeds for 49 cents, 375 Scallion Ishikuro seeds for 99 cents, 10 Burpless Tasty Green cuke seeds for 99 cents etc...etc...

Shipping is $1.99 no matter how many packages are ordered. I check the outlet every week or so as the selection (which is limited) changes...

David_Paul, you will be my downfall. I will justify the expense by saving seeds and saving the world.

Okay, I just want more.....

Thanks:)

I have used valueseeds and cherrygal. They have both been good. cherrygal sells a lot of the same varieties as SSE, but in small quantities if you want to try something.
As far as Roguelands is concerned, I would read the reviews on Watchdog. I ordered from them a couple of years ago in january and received seed in May. When I did get the seeds, they were good.
