I am trying something new with my taters this year. I tried growing them in tires last year and that was a big flop. This year I made a cage with fence wire, lined the bottom 6" (sides only) with plastic and put in about 5" of mulch. I planted the taters in the mulch and plan to fill the cage with hay, straw, leaves, ect until I fill It up (as the plants grow). I planted some white taters that sprouted in the pantry.
Potatoes
Looks a lot like mine, except for the plastic.
That is a horse feed sack I split. I lined the sides because the mulch was spilling out through the holes in the wire. I figured after a few rains it might be all gone.
I find that after the straw gets wet it's less inclined to go blowing away.
That's good to know. I think I'll go into the hills and rake me up some leaves.
