OOPs. The title should read IS a laurel a bay?

I know bay is in the laurel family. I'm looking to dry my own bay leaves and I have these laurel's. Are they the same thing?

Got2B ~ there are many types of Laurel but I believe there is only one that is used in cooking. Laurus Nobilis or Bay laurel. I am growing one in a pot and don't think the leaves are the same as yours. Perhaps someone will recognize your bay. I'll see if I can find a picture of mine. pod

That leaf picture does not appear to be Larus nobilis---be careful many laurels are toxic

I agree... the edges of L. nobilis are smooth, and your Laurel is slightly toothed.

When I lived in GA, there was a nice little bay laurel tree growing in an old cemetary.. I used to visit it for a few fresh leaves when making soup or stew!

Now I've got my own little sweet bay in a pot. :-)
