Strange Butterfly Request

St Augustine, FL(Zone 9a)

Hi Everyone,

I was an active participant on this forum two years ago and have just returned to Dave's.

I make jewelry (the photo is a seed bead butterfly I did a couple of years ago), and would like to incorporate butterfly wings in my work. However, I am reluctant to purchase this on-line because I want to make sure that the butterflies live their normal life-span.

So I am wondering if you would be willing to send me any deceased butterflies that you might find. I would send SASE or will trade from my trade list, which includes a number of hummer and BF plants.

Thanks so much!!

are you sure the wings would even hold up long enough? they are very delicate and Im thinking would deteriorate rather rapidly, not to mention would be so fragile that Im not sure turning into jewelry would be practical.

I am planning to encase them in plastic resin. I think that should do it.

ah...lol, ok, was wondering how that was gonna work ;)

I was thinking you just needed a model for your bead work. Now I also understand. Will be on the lookout.

Sent you d-mail about a Forbes Rothschild Silkmoth and an Imperial Moth.

Also...guess folks could check the front of semi-trucks and regular cars. I know sometimes during the year we get several butterfly migrations and the grills are covered with dead butterflies. I always have to check trucks at gas stations and restaurants whenever I walk by one - since I live close to Mexico and work at the port of entry I keep hoping I'll find a rare butterfly stuck on one :o)

Don't forget to show off your handywork when you get done - am curious to see what you will be able to do with them.

I've seen those coasters and serving trays as well as artwork made of different colored butterfly wings from overseas. They make me sad because I know the butterflies were farmed and killed for just that purpose. I feel the same way about the butterflies in those clear display frames - my doctor has several in his office...grrrr!!! Oh well, I'll get off my soap box :o) I still must admit they are beautiful.

It's good to know you'll be able to use those that have died naturally.

Yes, It would kill me to think I caused the death of such beautiful creatures. Their lifespan is short enough as it is. K
