So I was doing some research on fertilizing my raspberry plants. I planted these last year. The information I read said that I should have fertilized in March before any new growth appeared. Well, I didn't and so am wondering if I should do it now. The canes have small leaves on them, but not any flowers. Thanks for the advice.
fertilizing raspberries
I would. Advice from:
http://www.simmonsplantfarm.com/index_files/Page1588.htm
"Plants need about an inch of water every 7-10 days during hot weather.
Cultivate every week or 10 days to keep grass and weeds from plants.
Remove all old canes after they have borne fruit each summer.
Fertilize with 13-13-13 or 10-20-10 light every six weeks during growing season."
Fertilizing sounds like an ongoing process. I haven't been fertilizing my blackberry canes and they are starting to die out; I'm starting to fertilize them and some new Dorman Red raspberries I'm putting in this year.
Fertilize now. Its not too late although a month or so earlier would have been better. Be careful to not get it on the new growth and burn the leaves.
