Another Asparagus question. I see anything from 12 - 18"
I am putting them into a 4X4 raised bed, I usually follow the square foot gardening method. From square foot gardeners I see 12" suggested, from other sources anywhere from there to 18"
Any tips?
Spacing of Asparagus
I have found the roots/crowns I buy have about 6" to 8" roots...I put them as flat as I can...and it comes to about 12-16 inches...they all grow together so it really doesn't matter if you are some inches further apart in some areas....
I set mine one trowel length apart - which I'm guessing is about 12 inches. I never measure anything in the garden too precisely, and the plants seem to do okay.
I just read my growing instructions again - said that for thicker spears, use the larger number....
Also said the MOST important to amend in the beginning is the soil you will fill the trench in with...and don't let the pH go under 7-6.5.
