Bromelia scarlatina in bloom

Gainesville, FL

I wait for this every year, when the scarlatina blooms! One of my favorite plants

Hey Goth! I would so not have recognised that plant for a bromeliad! What an interesting leaf it has. Much more like a cordyline than a Brom. Is it hard/slow to grow?

Its very very slow. It only gets the red flush on the stems when it blooms. I had extremely poor luck with it in pots, it wasn't until I put it in the ground that it became more stable. It reminds me a little of Pitcairneas, but it is unarmed and the stems and leaves are very fleshy

Here is a slightly more encompassing view

I like that view better! Now if it was green, you'd think it was an Aspidistra!

Yeah, the bloom is pretty inconspicuous unless you get right down in there, LOL. It does remind me of cast iron plant!

Is that an Adonidia Merrillii, on the right, Ed
