New Coop

Los Gatos, CA

Hey,
I am building a new coop. (because I am new to this !) Can anyone send a picture of the inside of their coop? Also, do you put food inside the coop as well as outside?

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Anything works!
We have an old corn crib for our hens. One flock has the night time roosts in one of the cribs & the nest boxes & feed & water in the next room. We have a small red fluorescent bulb in the roost area on all the time. The light in the other room comes on at 6 AM & off at 9 PM. Nearly all the hens use the roost at night. Before the lights were installed, they were roosting everywhere, even in the nest boxes. Of course they were making a big mess!

The other flock also have 2 rooms. All feed & water is in one room.
The door for them to go outdoors is also in the feeding room.
Seems to work.

I guess that's not much help.. You probably mean a full sized coop.

Thanks, Bernie, So the light in the coop does effect the chickens. Good information!

ZZs- Thanks the link is great!

I only have four chicks, so my coop will be about the size of yours! We are going to have some fun with collecting the eggs and the manure!

Here is our coop in building stage. These are the nesting boxes. We put linolium down on the floor for easy cleaning. We used rough cut lumber. Yes, I put food and water inside and outside the coop.

Nice coop! I noticed that you used chain link fence. Are you lucky enough in NY not to have any predators like raccoon or others? I am in the California mountains and we have it all! Raccoons, bobcats, hawks, fox, coyotes, you name it.... I understand that the raccoons can just reach in and grab a chicken. We will be using chicken wire with really small holes in it.

Both of those coops are very well done. Sew is that Duke the roo in the front of the pic? He's a big boy. Haystack

Thanks, we do have predators. I have a wire fencing that runs underground so they can not dig under without going to China. And I have the entire top enclosed with chicken wire. Nothing gets in or out. I am not sure if you can see the top in the pic but it is really tight.

Yes Great Uncle. That is Duke. He makes all my chickens look mini. I still am missing him. Now my father says he would have taken him. A bit too late though. He has already gone to the other farm. I hope he is having a good time. :)
