Brugs in the Burgh area zone 6

Canonsburg, PA

Hi everyone. I live outside of Steeler country. My question. What is a good bloomer for my zone? Can I bring it in the garage for winter? I happened upon one called angle trumpet at the local nursery 2 years ago. It was beautiful. I sunk the pot it was in into the ground and it bloomed beautifully and smelled oh so good. It was right next to the deck railing and was tied to the deck for support. I did not see any at the nursery last year. I find them heavenly and don't want to go without again this summer. How soon can I put one out regarding temps?
Thanks for all your info

Hi Holly,
I am Pittsburgh Steeler country, also. My cousin even played for them a few years.
A lot of nurseries don't sell them here due to winter storage.

Whether you can store the potted plants in the garage depends on how cold the garage gets and for how long. Large mature Brugs planted in the ground can endure short dips below freezing. Younger established Brugs in the ground will die down to the ground. Bearing in mind that some Brugs are more frost tender than others chances are excellent they will return from below the ground. If the ground freezes, they are toast. In pots Brugs are more vulnerable. If the temperature in the garage goes below freezing and stays below freezing long enough for the soil around the roots to freeze, the roots will die. Now if you can raise the pots off the cold cement and erect a covered heated shelter for them, one that stays above freezing, all in the garage, they have a chance.
