This is my first year planting potatoes and I have some that are "late variety" and some that are "early variety" What does that mean? I am about to put the taters in the ground...still waiting for better eyes. But I just checked my order status from Henry Fields and it said that my Banana fingerling potatoes would not ship until late may or early june. Is this to late. It says it is supposed to be a late variety. It didn't say that is was back ordered. I placed my order in early February anyhow.
Any help would be appreciated! :)
POTATO QUESTION
Check with your county cooperative extension service for a guide of what to plant when in your area.
Early varieties are those that don't take as long to grow, so you can harvest them earlier than the late varieties.
Russian Banana takes about 120 days, as do most varieties labeled "late"
Figure on late fall potatoes and count back from your average date for a really hard freeze in your zone.
