Monarch

Beaumont, TX(Zone 9a)

I planted Butterfly Weed (Asclepias curassavica)for the first time last summer. I went outside today and found several branch stripped and at least 8 Monarch catapillars. I've lived here 50 years and don't remember ever seeing Monarch catapillars, very cool.

My camera died or there would have been pictures. I was so exicited when I saw them, it made my day. I'm hoping to start an actual butterfly garden in the back yard this summer.

I hope you do, butterflies are beautiful and having them around is a lot of fun.

Plant it and they will come (usually)! Congrats and I'm all green with envy. Around here the Monarchs have for the most part avoided this area this spring. Maybe they'll come through later.

Thanks Linda. They've got me hooked, now I'm making plans for a butterfly garden.

Yeah!!!! Another convert!!! You can find all you need to know on DG about butterflies. Look under the forum "Hummingbirds and Butterflies". Me and a lot of other bf lovers are there!!

Here is a pic of one posing for me one year in my garden. If you get them in the right mood, they love the camera.
