All the companion planting guides say to keep these three well away from each other. I can understand that, as they all grow the same way. The question is, how far away from each other? I've got dill in the herb bed next to the house. I just planted fennel on the edge of one of the garden beds. Those two I'm okay with. But now, I want to plant some caraway. Is 15' away from the dill enough? Is about 30' away from the fennel much better?
Caraway Dill & Fennel
Interesting question! There are so many reasons for various companion planting recommendations but these I am not aware of..... For some reason I think it may be something to do with the actual flavor of the dill and fennel but that could be totally off.
You might want to come over to the Organic Gardening forum where a number of us Companion Planting afficionados are hanging out, there are a few threads active in there and perhaps one of the others knows this particular piece of info. I would be interested myself.

I am also not sure why . I do grow dill and fennel rather close together with no problem EXcept do not let them self seed they cross and neither turn out quite right.
I grow dill for me and fennel for the butterfly's.
The way I handle it is to not let the dill flower, and just buy fresh seed each year.
Well, if they cross that would explain it!
I know also different varieties of dill must be kept separate if you want seed that comes true.
Oh! Just looked on my Seedsavers seed packet for Grandma Einck's dill and it says if you intend to save for seeds it should be isolated by 1/4 mile!
Well, Jeffinsgf, sorry I did not think to look sooner but I was not aware dill would cross with fennel, and now I bet it would cross with your caraway also! Interesting.........
Yikes, I just happened across this thread, and SO wish I'd seen it earlier. I planted dill and fennel in rows right next to each other. I figured they're for the butterflies, so I would put them together. Darn!!!!!!!!
