The Annual Merry Monarch Festival is next week end and here is a link to watch it streaming. You can also see past competitions on this site and it is one of the anchors, Paula Akana who does the commentaries which are really informative....

Carol
OT - World Hula Competition
Thanks Carol. I can't wait to see it. Should be interesting.
When I was a kid I was in love with everything Hawai'ian.
Is this on your island Carol?
Yes...every year the Festival is in Hilo... Hula groups from all over the world come here...Japan, US, Europe...but they don't compete... Mini performances, exhibitions, tiny children competitions and dancing...arts and crafts (only Hawaiian stuff allowed...Hawaiian artists etc.) Everyone wears lei.... it is a special time here.
The competitors are Hula 'Societies' called Halau where the old Kupunas pass on and teach what they have learned of this ancient art...
It's quite special. (I love the men's Kahiko Dancing... OH, my...those bodies!!!)
