I thought I was photographing a wild mallard and his hen this morning (they were on my pond at a distance). When I downloaded the photo, this is what I got! Now I know it's not a mallard hen. Is it a male blue-winged teal? That's my best guess based on my bird ID books...

Thanks Resin - that's a MUCH better picture. I was taking it from far away, and then using zoom both on the camera and the computer, so it lost a lot of detail. The white face patch and rear white patch are very distinctive so I think I'll know this one in future!
