taking plumeria cutting from Hawaii to California

Trabuco Canyon, CA

Does anyone know the proper procedure to bring back Plumeria cutttings from Hawaii. I am over here now, and have some beautiful
cutting from my friends yard..

Mulberry, FL

Calf. has the restrictions on what you can bring there you will have to ask.

Go to the aiport and have the dept of ag insp. check them before you go, I think that they can help with the rest? anyone else?

That should be it Calf and Fl are weird about that cause of the citrus.

Here is the procedure: remove all the leaves from the cutting. Get a bucket with water with a little bleach and a brush or sponge, scrub the cutting very well so that no traces of anything that could resemble bugs, eggs etc remain.
Before you leave, go to the airport with a box that fits the cuttings and packing material. There is an Agricultural department inspector at every airport. Take the box and the cuttings to them; they will inspect each cutting, and then will watch you pack the box and seal it; they will then stamp it as OK for export.
This should not take more than 10 minutes.
You can choose either to mail yourself the box or take it as luggage.
This procedure is the same, no matter where in the US the cuttings are headed.

Have a great time!!

Thanks, for the info.. I did what Dutchlady said, and everything is good. I shipped them home, and they have arrived
safely. Agriculture was easy, some looked at the plants carefully, and some just looked in the box.
Thanks Again...

GREAT! What all did you get?

Trabuco Canyon, CA

I got a lot, that is all I know... I am not good with the names, I am still learning...

The colors are Yellow, White, Singapore White (that I know) a rainbow one and another Salmon" ish " color.
I was staying at a friends home in Wailua, Kauai.. She has beautiful BIG trees, and we did some pruning...
My idea!!!!
I shipped home 7 boxes.. about 150 cuttings total.. I have been home 4 days now, and only have 20 more to put in pots.. I live on 8 acres, so I have a lot of room to grow them....
Thanks again for the information, it was really so easy.. Now I want to see how to bring them to California from a
friends house in Australia.. I think it is tougher.
Have a great day......

Importing from Australia is a big challenge; do your homework.
Well done. What is the address of your friend's house on Kauai? LOL (kidding)

Like Hetty said do your hoemwork. I believe if you get a phyto sanitary certificate from the dept of ag in OZ that you can ship plants from oz here. We have a sisiter company there, and that is how we get lettuce and onion seed into the country from OZ. The hard part would be finding an inspector and making sure that the paper work is filled out correctly, one false statement or incorrect wording and they may kick the shipment.

I know folks in Oz who constantly lament how difficult it is for them to get plants INTO Australia too. It must be a nightmare. They are very strict.
