This is our grandsons first time hatching eggs and he is on day 18. He is wandering if we should turn the turner off and take it out. Thank you for any help.
Egg turner.
I would take it out, yes. I had a friend who had a chick get caught in the turner. They should not be turned anymore now. How exciting!!! yeah!!! How many eggs?
Yes, at day 18, it would be best to stop turning the eggs. You don't have to take the turner out - you can just leave it in if you wish, but turn it off. Depends on what incubator you have. If you want to take it out, try to do it as quickly as possible while the incubator is open to avoid long changes in temp/humidity. When they begin to pip the eggs (make little holes) I increase humidity to 65%
Good to mention that. You really do not want a huge temp drop so quicker the better. ;)
We took the turner out and put the screen back in. We put the eggs in an egg carton with the big end up. We have 15 eggs from heritage chickens. We went out to a lady who has 350 heritage chickens and she gave us 15 eggs to hatch from JG to banties. It will be a surprise to see what comes out. Thanks for the help.
What a fun hatch! I hope you will show us pictures! I love surprise eggs!
hi
i had egg and the temp would not stay up
it went from 96 to 100
today was hatching day
was it too cold
any one know or should i try the light again

I would just wait a bit elle because often a low temp could just slow it down a day or two. Does not mean they wont hatch. Best wishes!!! ;)
thank-you
have a happy easter

Why do you stop turning the eggs at 18 days?
The chicks are positioning themselves to begin hatching and it's better to let them be in the same position. On the other hand, if you don't stop turning them, they often still hatch with no problem. I have missed moving eggs from my "incubating incubator" to my "hatching incubator" (I use two so that some eggs keep turning and others are moved to a still spot for hatch prep). The ones I have missed have hatched just fine. Admittedly, my Brinsea Octagon doesn't have a turner inside (the whole unit tilts from side to side) so there is nothing for the chicks to get stuck under or in the way of, while it's turning. That could be a danger with the other kinds of turners.
