We had a STORM last night

Saluda, SC(Zone 8a)

Our area was hit with our first spring storm last evening. Rolling thunder, flashing lightning, hail, heavy winds, and pounding rain. I figured my tomatoes had survived the freeze but were doomed since they are out in the open with no protection whatever. First thing this morning I head outside, camera in hand, to survey the damage and what did I see? My beautiful plants standing proud!! I feel so blessed today!

We had the same storm hours earlier. I was most concerned about predicted hail, but didn't happen here. Must say my heart goes out the mid section of the south under all that tornadic weather. I guess where ever we are we are blessed to be alive.
Special shout out to my pal Ggirl.

We have frequent wind storms etc. I find it best to put the tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets with bottom cut out ( I use a dremel) This protects them and gives them more room than a mik jug used the same way. I found it also kept the wind from drying out the soil and kept out the weeds so I left them on all season. Worked great.
If you do this either partially bury your bucket and or stake to keep the wind from blowing it over.

If you have snapped out tomato branches/plants from your storm, you can root them in the garden. Everything under the soil will root along the stem.
