My new Gloxinia

Robertstown, Australia(Zone 10a)

I thought you guys might like to see this. I have never seen one with a double layer of petals like this before. Does this kind have a special name of some sort, or am I going to have to keep calling it "that purple Gloxinia I purchased on the Cottage Gardens Society trip to the Petal Power wholesale nursery" which, really is way too much of a mouthful!

Ciao, Kaelkitty.

PS I don't know much about these guys - except that I always have trouble getting them to come back for a second year, which I find very annoying! On the other hand, it cost me $6 (about $4.50 US) and you can't buy a bunch of flowers for that! This plant will carry on for a couple of months and I LOVE purple flowers so it's a pretty good deal by those standards.

WOW! Just call it insanely gorgeous!!! Wish I knew more about these, but I know other members here do know, so perhaps you can hang onto this one.

this is a florist gloxiana, they do rest, when they are all thru flowering start to water much less until the foliage dyes back, then take the tuber & put it where it 's dark for awhile & it usually will come back. looks like a charles lawn variety, he has beautiful ones.

Bonnie, how should the tuber be stored while it is resting in the dark? Does it need any sort of moisture?

store it in a brown paper bag, somewhere where it gets no light at all.then check in a few weeks to see if you have new growth & if you do, start watering as usual.
