Boomer is sick

Penfield, PA(Zone 5b)

Boomer began vomiting on Monday. He probably vomited twice on Monday and 2 or 3 times on Tuesday. Each time is was just yellow liquid. He didn't eat for those 2 days. Then on Wed. he seemed much better. He went outside and played fetch with the tennis ball and was running around like a maniac (as always). Yesterday afternoon, he began acting weird. He laid down on the sunroom floor and wouldn't get up. He has NEVER laid on that floor. He wouldn't take a treat even though he has NEVER rejected a treat. We knew that something must be wrong. It is so hard to decide whether he needs to go to the vet or not. We laid on the floor with him and noticed that he seemed to be breathing heavy and he was shaking. Well, that was enough, we gathered him up and took him to the vet. After $400 and 3 hours at the vets, we still don't know what is wrong with him. We do know that he had a fever of 105. For a dog, the vet said it should be around 101 or 102. All his blood work was ok, they x-rayed for foreign bodies in his stomach, nothing. He did say that his spleen looked rather large, but that maybe it's just the normal size for his spleen. I am worried that something maybe wrong and we are not going to catch it in time. Anyone have any advice?
