Shrimp Plants in DFW

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I got a couple of shrimp plants at the RU in Arlington last weekend. Should I pot them or are they ok to go in the ground. Growing up in San Antonio, my mom always potted them. Also, do they like fun sun or dappled sun?

I also got one from Patrob. Plantfiles says partshade. I put mine against the east side of the house. Then again, the one I got in the fall didn't make it. I remember a discussion in the fall RU trades.

Hmmm....maybe I'll play it safe and pot them up.

I have some that are planted in a part sun/part shade area; they come back great every year. They don't bloom until late summer early fall, but are still blooming through December in our area.

I'm in San Antonio and I have shrimp plant in the shade of a live oak. It was there when we moved here 4 years ago and still going strong -- a little too strong, actually! LiseP

Mine are in the ground in San Antonio and have never frozen back; however, we have warmer temps here in the winter and they are somewhat protected. They are in morning sun and then filtered bright shade in the afternoon, morning sun and shade in the afternoon and bright filtered shade all day. The ones with some sun have more intensely colored blooms. They pop up from seed in some really weird places.
