Today was a big day. I put all the little silkies and showgirls in with the BIG girls. (Even Gerty aka Tim) They made it the whole day with no blood shed. With Duke gone things went much smoother. (as sad as that makes me its true) They managed to make it with almost all their feathers too!!! YEAH!! Wait until you see their sleeping arrangments. I will take pics of that as well when everyone is in tonight. :)
Look, We still have feathers!!
Sewin' - you have room for a LOT more chickens!! And how do you get those puffballs to look so serious?! I keep looking and cant figure out what it is that makes them look so intent on whatever ask that is, lol.
very cute! You have a lovely chicken house.
Yeah.. I agree.. More chickens! LOL
Sewin.. that is a really nice set up. They look happy to me!
Thanks all. Today is day two! I went out early to se if they were okay. All was fine. I opened the door and all the big girls ran out and the little ones stayed awhile to eat inside.
Grow, when I put them in the BIG house I think they were asking me, "ARE YOU SERIOUS! GULP" hehehe they did fine though. A bit of chasing and a few whacks on the butts and heads but nothing to make me think they were in danger for their little fuzzy lives. The coop and run do look smaller without the roos! Duke was like three hens! He was a big boy. Humphrey aka Potpie was also big. Here is a pic of the tunnel I made for them to sleep in. I used a long laundry basket and put a board ontop to keep the girls on the roost from pooping on them from above. :)
Another great idea Sewin!!! I have ONE silkie in a pen with several pullets.. hesheit sleeps under the feeder.. so I built some nest boxes and put them lower than the other ones.. Nope.. still too high.. so I'm gonna do what you did and give Chuckie a decent place to sleep. :) Thank you for posting that!
Its not pretty, but its functional. I am sure my DH will say it and shake his head. hehehe He does not realize that the Silkies/Showgirls wont roost up with the others. At least they have a safe haven if they need it. Its too small for the big hens to get in esecailly since I added hay. :)
Thanks ZZ
Thanks InnBetween. I still love yours and wish I had more land. :D
Awww. There is a certain beauty in functionality...perhaps not as it pertains to old laundry hampers, lol, but still...
Excellent! What a great set-up! They are all so cute!
Thanks Claire. They have made it through another day and still look great. I am so happy. I thought I lost one of them. I looked everywhere and couldnt find Pip. I found her hidden behind our broody tucked under with the eggs. I was so happy to find her! I knew she couldnt have gotten out. The run has wire burried under ground and the roof is covered! I am just thankful to find her. ;)
What a relief when your not sure about mixing birds and it all goes so smooth. They are an adorable flock. CONGRATS to you Sew, and I know your happy they have made the adjustment so well. Also glad pim was alright, they are all so cute.
